On 6 and 7 October 2006, the Swiss, Samuel Nagel, a long-distance specialist rider, will attempt to beat the record of the most kilometres covered on the track in 24h at the World Cycling Centre velodrome.

This performance is not recognised by the UCI, but could be homologated by the UltraMarathon Association, Inc (UMCA).

The best 24h performance was achieved in 1996 by the American, Michael Secrest covering a distance of 857.4km, with an average speed of 35.7km/h! The start of this attempt will be on Friday 6 October at midday.
