Kõikvõimalikud mõtted, mis tulevad pähe kui pole ammu sadulasse saanud või oled sinna liiga kauaks jäänud.

Tour de Baltic

Postitus Postitas arrec » 06. 08. 2008. 01:43

Hello and Greetings from Poland

I plan a bicycle trip from Helsinki to Poland.

I will use a road bicycle and prefer to take as few things as possible.
Regarding that I have same questions:

1.Maybe someone would like to join me for some part of the trip, even for a couple of hours would be very nice for me. Detailed route plan is below.

2. Maybe someone could recommend a nice and safe accommodation for a biker near Haapsalu for 15.08.08 and near Kuressaare for 16.08.08 (or (even better) someone could provide accommodation for me and my bicycle for this two nights).

A little about me:

I'm 30 years old biker from Poland. I'm economist and work in banking sector in Warsaw. I'm a crazy cycling fan. I also practice sport called 'Adventure Racing'. During my "Tour de Baltic" trip I plan to ride at tourist pace.
Here are some of my photos from an adventure-racing event: http://www.adventure.waw.pl/wyniki2/_mlawa/index.html

Route Plan:

13.08.2008 - late arrival to Helsinki
14.08.2008 - Helsinki and surroundings (around 80 km)
15.08.2008 - Helsinki - Tallinn (Estonia) - Haapsalu (around 120 km)
16.08.2008 - Haapsalu - Hiumaa Island - Saaremaa Island - Kuressaare (around 150 km)
17.08.2008 - Kuressaare - Saaremaa Island - Ventspils (Latvia) (around 100 km)
18.08.2008 - Ventspils - Riga (around 185 km)
19.08.2008 - Riga - Kupiskis (Lithuania) (around 150 km)
20.08.2008 - Kupiskis - Vilinus (around 150 km)
21.08.2008 - Vilinus - Druskininkai (around 150 km)
22.08.2008 - Druskininkai - Poland

Not sure if you know of http://www.warmshowers.org, might prove useful. I have a buddy touring the world on bike and this has been a goldmine for him. Not too many listings in Estonia though.. Also see http://www.visitestonia.com (for accommodation), http://www.laevakompanii.ee (for ferry schedules).

PS: A Finnish guy rode from Tallinn to Nice on a roadbike and an 8 kg backpack in 32 days and wrote a book about it. Too bad (for you) it is in Finnish.
